Any licensed professional who has been referred to our program for an ethical issue is eligible to participate.
Each board will identify a primary contact person (PCP) with whom we coordinate. We also recommend naming a secondary contact person (SCP) to insure consistent lines of communication be available to the referring board, CEB and the licensee. Updates are shared with the board's PCP on a regular basis with a standardized reporting form used. Generally boards are most interested in whether a professional has initiated services, is continuing to receive services, and has completed the requirements of the program.
A professional who is referred to Creating Ethical Boundaries can expect to receive assistance as they re-commit to their personal and professional ethics. Each professional creates a unique Personal Professional Ethics Plan (PPEP). The PPEP is focused on re-establishing and maintaining professional integrity.
When a board refers a professional to Creating Ethical Boundaries, they do so with the expectation that our program helps the professional "get it". The focus of our program is to help the referring board have more confidence in the disciplinary process by providing a rehabilitative service. Our program is designed to increase personal ownership and awareness of ethical risks the professional may experience.
A referring board identifies the need for a referral and initiates contact with Creating Ethical Boundaries. The professional contacts Creating Ethical Boundaries to initiate services and to make a financial payment.
Creating Ethical Boundaries incorporates online learning strategies, including video lessons, literature review, and assessment. To complete our program, the professional reflects on the circumstances which lead to the referral and authors a document illuminating these circumstances and describing effective strategies to either avoid or manage ethical risks differently. Each professional drafts a Personal Professional Ethics Plan incorporating their profession's code of ethics and personal characteristics necessary to engage in ethical practice.
Human behavior, even under the best of circumstances, is unpredictable. Creating Ethical Boundaries encourages professionals to analyze their behavior and complete a comprehensive risk assessment. However, there are no guarantees the professional will make a more ethical decision going forward. Likewise, completion of the Creating Ethical Boundaries program does not prevent a licensing board or authority for taking action.
The developers of Creating Ethical Boundaries recognized a missing key in ethics education. Many boards rely on completion of CEUs to help the professional understand the ethical concern. Yet, CEUs provide a false sense of security at best. Creating Ethical Boundaries is a one-on-one program designed to help professionals reclaim their professional integrity. We create opportunities for meaningful change with a clear focus on public protection.
There are three levels of service. During the intake phase, the Creating Ethical Boundaries team will determine the appropriate service level. The cost of the program is fully paid by the professional and payment in full is expected at the onset of services.
CEUs are not provided for this program. While many aspects of the materials are certainly continuing education, our program is tailored for each referral and education is provided in a 1:1 setting.
